She was the wife of a prominent Indian guide and volunteered as an art teacher for Navajo and Hopi children. Know primarily as a watercolorist, this is one of her rare oils." Verso also includes two notes describing the scene and legend of the mountain. On the back: "Late Afternoon. The allure of mysterious Superstition Mountain has been told in legend and history. Apache and Pima Indians revere and fear its strange formations and deep fastnesses. Gold has been found there, and the "Lost Dutchman" Mine is the most famous of its lost locations. The slopes of Superstitions are a garden of strange and wonderful cactus and desert growth. In spring, the soft colors of the Palo Verde blooms, yellow flowers of prickley pear, ocotillo and lavender iron wood forms a complete foreground." CONTINUED.... ![]()
