Lee's book Lee, Robert E. The making of the motion picture The Lost Dutchman Mine. l974. A favorite. Really a nice effort by a Southern California TV figure. Lee attempts to get the facts right, but he talked too much with the locals in Apache Junction, especially Ed Piper and Barney Barnard. Inadvertently informative about the local scene in the 1960's and early 1970's. Offers an interesting account of the making of his short film on the Lost Dutchman Mine in the Apache Junction area. Tends to overplay the danger and drama a bit, but people were murdered, so... With its mix of autobiography and lost mine lore it is really rather a unique work. Videotape copies of the Lost Dutchman Mine episode Lee did for his syndicated travelogue series are available from the SMHS Museum. Not to be missed!
